We survived!

Our first family camping trip! Hooray - we made it there AND back!

Lucas felt right at home as soon as he found his "daya" (blanket) hiding in the tent. Well, that is until 1 a.m. when he woke up completely bewildered. We realized it probably would have been good to do a 'dry run' with him in the back yard first. Oh well. Live and learn!

Starting the fire. We quickly started making a list of all the things we forgot that we will hopefully remember next time...like tongs for handling briquettes and dutch-ovens. Nate made a great make-shift set out of wire hangars. But what's camping without learning to just 'make do or do without'?

S'more please!

Sunset State Beach - a beautiful find! And not too crowded, either. We were the first ones on the beach Saturday morning...everyone else was more sane and slept in after we removed our loud early risers.

Natalie running out to meet Dad & Lucas (who made it out to the beach awhile before we did). They collected at least 4 whole sand dollars, among other treasures.

Lucas running to meet Mommy. Can't you hear "Chariots of Fire" in the background?

Quite the steep climb up the dunes on the way back to camp!

I didn't remember my camera for later in the day when we got to really play on the beach. It was pretty cold & windy so we didn't actually get in the ocean, but there were little tide pools and we did plenty of splashing and building in that. And I actually got a nap there. Pure heaven, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.

All in all, it was a successful trip and we're excited for the next one. Camping + beach = a perfect vacation!
